Our Ethics

The Little Questions…

Who?… Where?… Why?… What?

Row of mango sticks

And some bigger issues…

Fair trade
Trying to get a better deal for the world’s poorest producers. What Fair Trade means and why we’re involved.
You are what you eat
A few thoughts on how we source our ingredients and why.
Zen and the art of packaging
Why we use the packaging we do, and how best to deal with it.

Who are we?

Chocolala was taken over in Autumn 2009 by us, Lorraine and Jim, and we are following the previous owners’ principles of making handmade chocolates registered with Fair Trade association.

Where are we?

We really are North. In fact, we are North of the Border, in South West Scotland, and two miles from the local village.

It is a beautiful setting on a sunny day but we’re afraid there is not that many of them. Plenty of dark nights in the nearby Galloway Forest apparently.

Why chocolate?

Well, after a twenty-five year career in the food industry, chocolate making is a more satisfying and tastier alternative.

What’s it all about?

We make fresh chocolates — simple as that.

Our difference is twofold:

  1. The taste
  2. Fair Trade ingredient sourced

This will make a difference to both your taste buds and to cocoa growers — conscience clear!
