Chocolates by (the Yorkshire) Post

chocolala in the Yorkshire Post

Well our blogging software has been up and running for weeks… but I’ve been too scared to use it. The fear comes from a whole range of things… speaking out to the world (well, to the half dozen friends who might read this blog), grappling with the technology (some part of which will always remain a mystery!), poor spelling and sentence structure (3/10, must try harder) … but the greatest fear, the thing that is most paralysing, is the thought of being slightly dull and having nothing very interesting to say.

Being seriously dull would be fine. We can all laugh at seriously dull. It’s extremity gives it an intrinsic interest.

It’s the being slightly dull that’s the problem…

So I have a strategy to help me overcome this… use other people’s work which may (or may not) be of interest!

A couple of days ago we had an article about chocolala appear in the Yorkshire Post. (I wrestled with trying to find some witty word play around chocolates by post and the Yorkshire Post, but failed)… if you are so moved you can read the article here.

However, the Yorkshire Post also sent a video journalist round. He’s made a short vid of me getting covered in chocolate, which is now posted on their website. So, if you have 5 mins to spare and want to get an idea of how we make your chocolates, take a look *

* I never realised that I was such an odd combination of scary and camp. What a wonderful medium video is.

The article and the video are just great, Niladri (and thanks for your e-mail this morning). It's so good to see how the georgeous chocs are made.

Susan has just ordered some more for people who've assisted us in our new venture (Go Inside to Greet the Light, released 29 Sept) and we'll doubtless be ordering more soon.

Just a little point - it might hold your website visitors longer if your links to the Yorkshire Post opened in a new tab or a new page - I had to go back to the link in the e-mail/use the back button.

Good luck with everything anyway. The site is fab.

Loved watching the chocolates being made, Niladri. You're not as scary as I expected!

On a more technical point, as raised by Helen, I generally advise people not to force links to open in new windows - it doesn't allow visitors options and has downsides in terms of accessibility. Besides, it's easy enough for visitors to hold down the Shift key when they click the link which will open the link in a new window anyway. Of course, that's easy to say when you have the know-how!
